Gale and Joyce Barefoot

Everything at The Peddler is aged to perfection, from our steaks to our story.

Each steak we serve is aged for a minimum of 28 days for ultimate flavor and tenderness, and cut at your table upon request. Our prime rib is the house specialty, but we strive for perfection in everything we serve, including steak, seafood, and chicken entrees all prepared over live charcoal.

Our story is a family one. Owner Gale Barefoot worked his way up from his days as a dishwasher at age 19 to overseeing the entire restaurant operation within a few short years. His wife Joyce answered phones, worked the floor on busy nights, and greeted customers for 44 years — until her death in 2013. Both of their daughters, and countless other family members, have worked at the Peddler over the years, and several of our long term staff members have become like family.

Our story is also an old one, aged to perfection. The Peddler opened its doors in 1969, and still lives at its original location on Glenwood Avenue. We've always been independently owned and operated.

Great things take time. Please come out to dine with us, and experience an Old Raleigh steak house that is ‘aged to perfection.’
